It’s designed to treat gum disease without the need for traditional scalpel surgery. Dr. Canatella is a New Orleans LANAP provider and works with patients who have advanced gum disease to restore gum health and stabilize overall oral health. LANAP can offer hope when periodontitis has threatened the stability of your teeth. We also provide restorative dentistry treatments to new and existing patients in New Orleans, LA.
What is LANAP?
LANAP is a non-surgical solution for treating the effects of periodontitis. LANAP uses a specialized laser to remove infected tissue and bacteria from the gum pockets, the spaces between your gums and teeth. The laser also helps to stimulate the underlying tissue and bone, promoting healing and reattachment of the gums to the teeth.
Benefits of LANAP
LANAP can restore the health of your gums without surgery and associated risks. Even when told that surgery is the only answer, meet with Dr. Canatella to see if you are a candidate for LANAP. This minimally invasive solution may save your gums—and your smile!
- Minimally Invasive: Unlike traditional gum surgery, LANAP doesn’t require cutting or stitching. This can lead to less discomfort and faster recovery.
- Reduced Bleeding and Swelling: The laser is designed to minimize bleeding and swelling, making the recovery process more comfortable.
- Faster Healing: Many patients experience quicker recovery times compared to traditional surgery.
- Less Pain: The procedure is generally less painful than conventional gum surgery, and most patients report only mild discomfort afterward.
LANAP: About the Process
Dr. Canatella will assess your oral health condition using a visual exam and digital diagnostics for a comprehensive understanding of your needs. This is an important step in determining if LANAP is a suitable treatment for you. The LANAP procedure is completed over 2-3 visits, typically treating one arch and then the other.
A local anesthetic is used to numb the area to be treated. Dr. Canatella will use a special laser to target infection and diseased tissue, removing it while stimulating the regrowth of healthy tissue. The laser also helps to promote the reattachment of the gums to the tooth.
Patients might experience some mild discomfort initially, but this is usually manageable with over-the-counter pain relief if needed. Most patients notice improvements in gum health and comfort within a few days to a week. Full healing may take a bit longer, and follow-up visits are usually scheduled to monitor progress.
